For students moving in during semester break, or international students moving into the halls for a program, contact us for specific move-in dates.

Staff are preparing for students to move in to the residence halls. Painting, cleaning, and general maintenance to enhance the residence halls are underway.

Instructions

In mid-July following Orientation, all students will receive information via their Ball State email account and via regular mail, with details about their roommate (with contact information) and hall assignment. There will also be information about directions to campus and parking details in the packet.

A suggested time for your arrival will also be enclosed. (We assign students and families different times of the day to arrive to prevent congestion and long-lines and ask that you try to follow this.)

Make sure to have your Ball State ID ready when you arrive. Our curbside check-in process will have you checked into your building quickly and efficiently so you're ready to move your belongings into the hall!

Please plan to move in on your designated day—early move-in is not possible, as we will make last minute preparations to the halls up to the day of move-in and on-campus dining choices will be extremely limited.
For students moving in early with an approved group, please plan to follow the schedule provided by your group leader and also see our information about early move-in.

Think Green

You are also encouraged to make your move-in "green" by following these guidelines:

  • Pack your items in reusable containers.
  • When shopping for accessories for your room, look for "green" items.
  • Make sure to recycle any cardboard boxes and packing materials—break down the boxes to save space in the trash containers.
  • Participate in our in-hall recycling program by disposing of plastic beverage bottles, paper, metal cans, etc. in the marked recycling containers in your halls trash rooms.
  • When you're ready to move out, take unwanted clothing, food, and other still usable items to designated pick up areas for local charities.

If you're not sure what items to bring with you, view our move in checklist list online.

Early Move-In

For 2018, students who require an early move-in due to an athletic team, Early Start, or other Ball State student group or organization with approval in advance from Housing and Residence Life, please follow these guidelines when planning your arrival to the residence halls.

For individual students requiring an early move-in, see the information below.

Approved groups must have permission in advance from the associate director of Housing and Residence Life to arrive before the first official day of move-in, August 15 (Premium Plan day). Contact your organization's leader to determine if your group has been approved, and the date and time scheduled for your move-in.
Individual students also must have permission in advance from the associate director of Housing and Residence life to arrive before the first official day of move-in, August 15. Students who arrive early without making arrangements in advance will not be able to move in.

Please plan to arrive at your residence hall at the day and time your group's leader has indicated. (If you arrive outside of the designated day/time, there may not be staff available to assist you.)

You may park in the designated parking areas to unload your belongings at the curb, then move your vehicle to the parking lot based on your parking permit. Ball State Parking Services will enforce all parking lots during the early arrival times.

While families are unloading vehicles, students should check into their hall desk to receive their check-in packet and room key. Carts and tools will be available at the front desk to checkout.

Please bring your Ball State ID with you to check-in at your residence hall.
Dining is not open to use with your meal plan until Aug. 15 (for Premium Plan members). Contact your group's leader to see what arrangements will be provided for you.

Your hall's desk will be open:

  • Aug. 6-13 – 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Aug. 15 and later – 7 a.m.-midnight

U.S. Postal Service mail will be delivered to the halls beginning Aug. 13.

Staff will begin checking student IDs and registering guests when the hall desks close every evening beginning August 14.
Resident Assistants will already be moved in, but will be in training during the day hours of early arrival. They will have night-time hours to be on-site at their residence halls.
Plan to pick up your loft on August 15 from the designated area; carpet will be available for pick up at central locations.
These will be delivered to your room before your arrival, if you placed your ordered before the July 31 pre-order deadline. Order online.
You will be expected to adhere to all residence hall policies upon your move-in.
Communicate with your roommate if you are in a group that is moving in early, to determine how the room will be set up and how you will share the space. Unfortunately if you are not part of an early arrival group, you may not move in early with your roommate.
Please be aware that as you are moving into the halls before your housing contract begins, your Bursar account will be charged for each night of your early stay.

In case of an emergency, contact your hall's front desk and University Police at 765-285-1111.
