The School of Art invites the public to attend BEGINNINGS: The Foundations Student Show between August 20 through September 18. Foundations students will display artworks representing a dynamic range of media, concepts, and styles. This is a great chance to see the exciting art being made by some of the School of Art's foundations students! Free and open to the public.

Text analysis, or “distant reading,” is a powerful and versatile methodology within digital scholarship. This workshop will introduce several different types of text analysis, discuss important applications, and highlight common misconceptions. Participants will learn the basic process for preprocessing text for analysis and will be introduced to Voyant, an online text mining platform.

Lathay Pegues graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. After graduation he worked as a reporter and anchor for various news stations in the Midwest, even winning a Regional Emmy Award. However, once his news station suddenly shut down operations, he and others were left scrambling for jobs. He decided the put his career on hold and chase another dream. Along with two partners, he launched JohnTom’s Barbecue Sauce, inspired by his grandfather’s secret sauce recipe. Lathay moved his family back to his hometown of Muncie, IN, and started the business while also working for the Muncie Star Press. In 2014 he decided to take JohnTom’s full-time! Since then, the sauce has been on shelves in numerous stores and even awarded “Best Sauce in Indiana” by Indianapolis Monthly Magazine.

We'll talk about searching for and borrowing books, as well as finding library databases in your field so that you can search for reliable articles on your research topics. We'll also make sure you know about printing options at the libraries and how to borrow laptops and other electronic equipment. Most importantly, we want to make sure you know about the many ways you can get help when you have questions!
