Join us for a screening of and discussion about "Fruits of Labor".
A Mexican-American teenage farmworker dreams of graduating high school. When ICE raids her community, it threatens to separate her family and forces her to become her family's breadwinner. She works long days in the strawberry fields and the night shift at a food processing factory. Set in an agricultural town on the central coast of California, Fruits of Labor is a lyrical, coming-of-age documentary feature about adolescence, nature and how ancestors paved the way.
Directed by Emily Cohen Ibáñez, and an official selection at the SXSW 2021 Film Festival, Fruits of Labor offers a new narrative about women workers that shows the nuances of how the global food system intersects with gender and family life. Join us for this screening as part of Hispanic Heritage Month.
The film is 1hr 16 minutes long, and includes some R-rated language.
