Engaging Community Series

In engaged universities, community involvement is viewed not as a supplement to a faculty member’s core work, but as an effective way to achieve all three of academia’s primary missions – teaching, research, and service (Furco, 2010).

Our Fall 2017 Engaged Community Series will highlight Ball State faculty who have successfully embedded community engagement across their scholarly pursuits.

Session 1: Teaching (Thursday, September 21, 9:30 – 10:30 am, BL 104)

Presenters will include: Melinda Messineo, Sociology; Debbie Davis, Journalism; Jane Ellery, Wellness

Service learning and immersive learning are rich experiences for creative thinking, concept application, and community engagement. But they involve extra planning and relationship building, which can be challenging for early-career faculty. Learn from peers and mentors who have turned innovative classroom experiences into publishable research.
