The views film and television crews can get from the sky are impressive and with drones, easier than ever to capture. While technology has made unmanned aerial systems, commonly known as drones, more affordable, it’s not a free-for-all. There are rules and regulations for anyone using public air space. Many people are concerned about drones getting too close and what they might reveal, but lawful operation isn’t obtrusive.

Tim Underhill is a senior lecturer in the Department of Media at BSU. He helped start the first drone class the university offered in 2015 and has been helping students learn to fly safely ever since.  Underhill is a certified commercial remote pilot and also a stickler for following the rules. Underhill will talk about what safeguards are in place to protect people and property. He will also show some great views that wouldn’t have been possible without unmanned aerial systems.
