A professional development event for East Central Indiana Art Teachers, hosted by the Art Education Association of Indiana and the Marilyn K. Glick Center for Glass at Ball State University.
Experience glass-art making techniques at one of the premier glass-art facilities in Indiana! East Central Indiana art teachers are invited to spend a Saturday afternoon in the Marilyn K. Glick Center for the Glass at Ball State University experiencing a combination of 2 of the following 3 options; glass blowing, flame-working, or glass fusing. Participants will choose from two, 2-hour sessions when registering.
Flame Studio
- After safety instruction is reviewed, participants will work to create small glass sculptural components or jewelry-based components. The flame studio allows participants to work on individual torches with glass-colored rods. Three-dimensional. (Limit first 14 registrations.)
Kiln Studio
- After safety instruction is reviewed, participants will spend time working with colored sheet glass, glass frits and powders, and glass stringers to recreate glass drawings to be fired in the kiln. The kiln studio allows participants to plan out and create drawings in a cold state that is then fired to the glass. Two-dimensional. (Limit first 14 registrations.)
Hot Shop - Due to safety limitations both Hot Shop sessions have filled.
- After safety instruction is reviewed, participants will work to create a solid or hollow creation. This could include a small functional vessel or small sculptural piece. The hot shop has participants working in small teams with glass gathered from a furnace. Three-dimensional. (Limit first 12 registrations.)
Please arrive early by 11:00am. Lunch and information session, 11:30am-12:30pm. Glass making activities 12:30 – 5:30 pm.
