Solar Filter Workshop

Want to see the Sun safely in a whole new way with your binoculars or small telescope? Register to join us at our Solar Filter Workshop!

What is solar filter? It’s a powerful tool that lets you view our brilliant and bright Sun safely! Solar film filters sunlight and lets you observe our mesmerizing daytime star without the harmful rays damaging your eyes or your devices like telescopes and cameras.

Specially designed solar filters are your ticket to exploring the Sun’s surface, revealing sunspots and the partial phases of a solar eclipse.

Signup, join the workshop, and design your own special solar filter for the optical device you provide:

  • Learn how to safely make and use a solar filter for telescopes, binoculars, and cameras. Also learn about smartphone apps available for use with solar filters and more.
  • Explore what you can look for when using a solar filter and device with Ball State planetarium staff and seasoned astronomer Dr. Todd Vaccaro.
  • Understand more about the importance of having the right equipment to look at the Sun safely every day and especially during a solar eclipse.
