Please join Dr. Michael Rhoades from the IDIA Lab at BSU as he presents his “7 Antitheses,” an abstract visual music installation in the Charles W. Brown Planetarium on Thursday, March 30th. At this open house style event, the unique audiovisual experience will repeat at 4pm, 5pm, and 6pm. Arrive any time and stay for as long, or as little, as you’re able to! Light refreshments will be served in the lobby throughout the event.
The “7 Antitheses” project consists of seven compositions ranging in style from abstract to non-objective extended reality. Similar to abstract expressionist or impressionist paintings, the project is simply intended to be experienced. Ultimately, this approach provides for a deeply immersive, non-linear, consciousness-awakening, and extended reality experience.

More about Dr. Michael Rhoades
Dr. Michael Rhoades’ primary research and creative practice involves the nexus of pseudo holography (stereoscopic), holophony, and super-computing utilized toward the creation of visual music compositions intended for 3D/360 presentation. Head mounted displays or 3D/360 projection screens, and high-density loudspeaker arrays are the venues of choice for these stochastically generated compositions. For this research he received an interdisciplinary PhD from Virginia Tech in December of 2020. He currently heads the HCI area in the Institute for Digital Intermedia Art (IDIA Lab) at Ball State University.

- Due to construction being done on the Cooper Science Complex, select parking and pathway access to the planetarium is blocked off. Plan to arrive early to safely navigate the area and arrive on time for the program. Visit our location and transportation webpage for up-to-date information.

- No reservations are required for this public planetarium event. However, plan to arrive early as seating is done on a first-come, first-served basis and seating is limited.
- We accept cash donations at the door and greatly appreciate your support to make our programs possible.
- We do our best to have doors open 10 minutes before show time.
- Food, drinks, gum or candy are not allowed in the planetarium.
- Cellphones and any electronics that emit light must be silenced or turned off at the start of all programs. Please refrain from wearing light-up shoes to any planetarium programs.
- Children 17 years and under should be accompanied by an adult.
- The planetarium is located on the west end of the Cooper Science Complex, at 2111 W. Riverside Ave., Muncie.
