Professor of History Sergei Zhuk will present an overview of his new book project about Soviet meddling in U.S. and Canadian politics during the Cold War after Stalin, specifically using issues related to Soviet Ukrainian identity and cultural diplomacy.
This project draws on research at the State Archive of the SBU [former KGB] in Kyiv, Ukraine, featuring KGB correspondence, reports, information presentations to the political leadership of Soviet Ukraine, and counterintelligence.
Professor Zhuk did this archival research, using his sabbatical leave from Ball State and Kennan Institute Scholarship from the Wilson Center, during December 2018 - July 2019 while traveling in Ukraine, Austria and Italy.
Sponsored by the Department of History and Ball State’s European Studies Program.
