The English Department's Marilyn K. Cory Speaker Series welcomes Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Tyehimba Jess. A Detroit native, Jess and his first book of poetry, leadbelly, won the National Poetry Series in 2004. His Pulitzer Prize-winning book Olio weaves performance art with poetry to challenge contemporary ideas of race and identity in the lives of largely unrecognized African American performers from before the Civil War up to World War I.

This event is co-sponsored by the Office of Institutional Diversity and the Multicultural Center.
