Featured Speaker:

Dr. Kristin Trainor is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and assistant professor in the Department of Social Work at Ball State University. Kristin is a supervisor within the Healthy Lifestyle Center at Ball State University, which supports healthy community initiatives. She received her B.A. from Butler University and her MSW and PhD from Indiana University School of Social Work. Kristin has over 10 years of clinical experience with a focus on maternal and neonatal healthcare. Kristin’s research predominately explores Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, substance use disorder during the perinatal period, stigma and bias in the healthcare setting, health literacy, medical trauma, and community engagement. Dr. Trainor focuses on collaborative, interdisciplinary research designs.

Objectives:

1. Participants will gain greater understanding of the potential for structural stigma among healthcare providers towards individuals with substance use disorder.

2. Participants will gain tools to help shape policy within their organization to decrease structural stigma.

3. Participants will gain greater understanding of the beliefs of causation of substance use and the effects towards individuals with a substance use disorder.
