The Master of Urban Design Information Session scheduled for March 27 is canceled.

A Master of Urban Design degree from Ball State University’s College of Architecture and Planning (CAP) provides the skills to be an interdisciplinary leader in the design of our cities.

Graduate students in our Master of Urban Design (MUD) Program are trained in theory, practice, and design thinking methods related to engaging people and designing places within, and across, urban environments. Students work collaboratively with fellow students, professional faculty, and expert partners. Students are assigned professional mentors as well as have exposure and access to top municipal, neighborhood, and professional leaders through our unique location, diverse partnerships, and wide-ranging events.

The MUD Program is embedded in Indianapolis, in the College’s center for outreach and engagement. The program brings together students from various design-based backgrounds such as architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning. Admission is available for those with previous degrees in non-design disciplines on a case by case basis. MUD students are self-driven to explore design solutions for urban environments, not just from the focus of their previous disciplines, but instead in an interdisciplinary and holistic manner; such perspective is necessary when dealing with the complex problems facing our cities.

MUD students are actively engaged in the City of Indianapolis from the moment they begin the program; admitted students are eligible for a paid internship through our new Civic Design Center in order to provide planning, design, and development assistance to the neighborhoods and City of Indianapolis. This program teaches city design through a hands-on, interdisciplinary approach, across a spectrum of scales from human interaction, to the neighborhood, to the city-wide view, and its larger connections to the region. This one-year, post-professional program is practice-based at an affordable price, creating a value unmatched by other institutions.
