12 p.m.
Dr. Kristin Barry will discuss her research and in-process book titled Architecture and War: Propaganda, Destruction, and the use of the Built Environment in Waging Armed Conflict. The book focuses on the intersections of armed conflict and design, from the beginnings of conflict (cosmology, revolution, and colonization), in the throes of conflict (fortifications, cultural conflicts, and megalomania), and following conflict (marginalization/gentrification, memorials, rebuilding). Dr. Barry’s research presents the relationship between design and conflict inter-chronological and cross-connective through repeated patterns and sequences.
