United Auto Workers Locals 499 and 287 were both organized in the late 1930s and early 1940s. They represented workers at the two largest factories in Muncie, Warner Gear (now BorgWarner) and Chevrolet of Muncie. They worked to provide better working conditions and lives for their workers, and they were also leaders in the city-wide labor movement. These pictures show the officers of the two unions in the 1960s and some of the activities they participated in and out of the factory.
