What is Academic Coaching?
Academic Coaching is the one-on-one process of helping you examine academic concerns and perceived obstacles to success. Think of an Academic Coach like a personal trainer. Personal trainers offer new workouts, individual support, and provide guidance to help you achieve your goals. Similarly, an Academic Coach is helping you strengthen your learning “fitness.”
Your academic goals might sound like this:
- “I think I could manage my time better.”
- “I don’t want my anxiety to get in the way of how I perform on a test.”
- “I’d like to retain more of the information I learn for the long-term.”
- “I want to procrastinate less.”
Academic Coaches provide students with academic support in areas such as goal setting, time management, procrastination, organizational skills, as well as note taking and reading strategies. Your Academic Coach works individually with you, helps you evaluate your strengths and areas for improvement, and partners with you to develop a personalized plan of action. An Academic Coach will help you improve your academic strategies, develop effective study habits, and find school/life balance.
Academic Coaching is free for all Ball State students! You can try it out one time or make a weekly appointment (recommended).
