Ball State’s bachelor of arts/bachelor of science (BA/BS) option in design and technology is a broad-based, undergraduate-only program in a liberal arts environment. This program allows students to explore the multiple skills required to be a well-rounded design and technology professional.
Hands-on opportunities will help you build foundational skills in the areas of scenic, lighting, costume, sound, hair and makeup, props, and technical theatre. You will be challenged to think and problem-solve critically and creatively, and see real-world impact when working on plays, musicals, and dance pieces. Course work focuses on the whole theatre artist—design theory and technical skills are equally valued.
You will have an opportunity to apply your training during the production season through hands-on application. Immersive experiences in our 400-seat proscenium theater, flexible studios, and versatile dance venues provide space for exploration of learned techniques and styles, offering you room to create the artist you want to be.
Your senior capstone is your opportunity to take action on transitioning from student to the professional career of your choice.
The BA/BS design technology option does not require an interview for admittance, but it is highly recommended to participate in the interview process for scholarship consideration. Students must be academically admitted to Ball State in order to receive an offer in the area of study. Interview and application information is below under Take the Next Step.
