Verify Employment
- Submit your Leave and Earnings Statement (LES) as proof of employment to online@bsu.edu no later than the first day of classes. Check the academic calendar for start dates.
- This is required to receive the tuition reduction. You may be asked to send an updated LES before each semester.
- Use the subject line "Federal Academic Alliance Employment Verification" when submitting your LES. Also include the following information in your email:
- Name
- Employment/Retiree/Spouse/Dependent Status
- Federal Department Name
- Intended Program Name
- Spouses and dependents of Federal Employees will need to submit additional documentation along with the Federal Employee’s current LES. Review the “Eligibility” section for more information.
* If you register for non-eligible courses, more than 12 credits, or if you do not submit your LES, you’ll be assessed tuition rates based on your residence. Any adjustments to course registrations may result in changes to your bill and possible monies owed.
Eligibility
All current Federal Employees (civil servants), spouses, dependents, and retirees are eligible for the in-state tuition rate for Teachers College online, graduate-level programs and courses. The full terms of eligibility are listed below.
- You will need to apply to be admitted to the Ball State Graduate School in order to pursue online graduate certificates, degrees, or courses for professional development.
- You may enroll in a maximum of 12 credits per semester.
- You need to maintain a 3.0 or higher GPA within the first 9 credits and beyond to continue receiving a tuition discount.
- You are responsible for paying all other applicable fees.
If you are no longer employed by the Federal Government, then you are no longer eligible for the 30% tuition reduction. However, if you began a Teachers College program through Ball State’s Federal Academic Alliance partnership, but do not reach completion within two years, you will remain eligible for the tuition reduction only under the following circumstances:
- You remain employed as a Federal Employee or you are separated from Federal employment due to a general “reduction in force” of Federal employees.
- You remain in good academic standing.
- You continue your enrollment uninterrupted until program completion.
- You remain in good financial standing with Ball State and Teachers College.
Spouses and dependents of current Federal Employees are eligible for the in-state tuition rate for Teachers College online, graduate-level programs and courses. The full terms of eligibility are listed below.
- If you are a spouse or dependent, you will need to submit a current LES of the Federal Employee along with the following documentation:
- Spouses: Marriage license
- Dependents: Birth certificate or the most recent tax return on which you were claimed as a dependent
- You will need to apply to be admitted to the Ball State Graduate School in order to pursue online graduate certificates, degrees, or courses for professional development.
- You may enroll in a maximum of 12 credits per semester.
- You need to maintain a 3.0 or higher GPA within the first 9 credits and beyond to continue receiving a tuition discount.
- You are responsible for paying all other applicable fees
*Final determination of eligibility is made by Ball State University. The terms of the partnership between Ball State University Teachers College and Federal Academic Alliance will be reviewed every five years and are subject to change, termination, or cancellation at any time by either party via written correspondence. Upon termination, students will be permitted to continue their current enrollment through the end of the current course section.
