  • Fall – July 1
  • Spring – November 1

Before You Begin...

Ball State is authorized to accept online students from all U.S. states. However, certain states have regulations regarding licensing programs in nursing and education.

If you are a current, admitted Ball State student but have not taken classes for more than a year or if you received a "Re-Admit" error when attempting to register for classes, you need to select the:

Re-enroll (previous Ball State graduate students only)” option under “Academic Intent” in the application.

Do not choose the Re-enroll Applicant Type if you are any of the following:

  • a first-time applicant to a Ball State graduate program
  • applying for a new or different program or certificate than one in which you are already enrolled
  • previously applied for a program but never attended any classes

Updated Admission Requirements for 2021–22

Admission requirements have been updated for students applying to start Fall 2021 or later. Choose which semester you plan to start at Ball State below to see which requirements you should follow for your application.

Applying to Start in Spring or Summer 2021

The Department of Educational Leadership considers the following criteria:

  • your grade point average (GPA) in previously completed graduate work
  • the content submitted by references
  • compatibility of the degree program and your goals/needs
  • other evidence of advanced graduate academic skills (writing, research, etc.)
  • relevant career or life experiences/accomplishments

Degree

You must have a master’s degree from an institution recognized by a regional accrediting association.

GPA

You must have earned a minimum of a 3.2 GPA from the master's degree-granting institution.

GRE

Our program does not require you to take the GRE.

Interviews

As part of the evaluation, you may be invited to campus for an interview.

Materials

You will need to upload the following materials to your online application.

  • Statement of purpose that describes your educational philosophy and beliefs about leadership (no more than 600 words). You are encouraged to tweak such a document from your coursework, if appropriate (such as assigned in EDAD 600 Introduction to Leadership course at Ball State).
  • Writing sample from a graduate course that reflects your best research writing (with citations and APA 6th-edition formatting).
  • Current curriculum vitae that highlights leadership and community involvement.
  • Names and email addresses for five references who have knowledge of your leadership abilities.

Fees

Applications are $60 per program.

You can pay your application fees (nonrefundable) with Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover. Or you may pay online with an electronic check from a U.S. bank.

Fee Waivers

You do not have to pay the application fee if you are a:

  • McNair Scholar
  • previous Ball State student (enrolled after high school)
  • current Ball State employee (full-time, benefits-eligible)
  • veteran or active-duty military
  • guest student seeking credits to transfer to another institution

If you are in one of these categories, make sure to select the fee waiver option in the application.
