Dr. Matthew Groenewold served as an epidemiologist in the commissioned corps of the US Public Health Service assigned to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health before his retirement in April 2024. Previously to the US Public Health Service, he served in the CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service and is a former member of the CDC Global Rapid Response Team. He has participated in the emergency response to epidemics, including Ebola, Zika and Monkeypox, the H1N1 and COVID-19 pandemics, and other disasters such as the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. His research has broadly covered public and occupational health problems ranging from Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease to Histoplasmosis to workplace violence.
