Now in its 15th year, the Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition is recognized as one of the most prestigious European international piano competitions.

Ball State University has been selected for the fourth consecutive year to serve as the North American host site for the preliminary round of the 2019 competition. 

Preliminary round winners will perform in the continuing stages of the competition in Hastings, England. The six competition finalists will perform with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and receive monetary prizes.

First prize is £15,000 and additional performance engagements.

Megaphone

Pianist Roman Kosyakov, winner of the 2018 Hastings competition, will perform a solo recital on November 8, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. in Sursa Hall.

Competition participants will perform in the critically acclaimed Sursa Performance Hall, located in the Music Instruction Building on the Ball State campus. Participants will perform on a new Hamburg Steinway D and will have new Bs and Os available for practice.

Airport Shuttle Service

Ball State will offer complimentary round-trip airport shuttle service from the Indianapolis International Airport, approximately 75 miles southwest of Muncie, to the campus. The shuttle will pick up competition participants from the airport at 10 a.m., 2:30 p.m., and 7 p.m. on November 9, 10, and 11. The shuttle will leave Ball State for the airport at 8 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 5 p.m. on these same dates. There will be at least one shuttle scheduled for November 7, 8, and 12 with the time TBD.

When making flight arrangements, please keep in mind that the drive to Ball State from the airport typically takes 75-85 minutes.

Parking

Competition participants should park in the McKinley Avenue Parking Garage, at McKinley and Ashland Avenues, south of the Music Instruction Building. Metered parking is on the bottom floor with pay stations at each pedestrian exit. Participants staying at the University Hotel will receive a parking pass for the parking lot adjacent to the Student Center.

The University Hotel is located in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center on the Ball State campus. The Student Center features a Starbucks, Taco Bell, and food court, and is two blocks south of the Music Instruction Building. A 15 percent discount is being offered to all competition participants.
