Iván Martínez is a native Spanish speaker from Venezuela, South America. He has a Masters (MA) in Spanish Language and Literature from Western Michigan University and has taught Spanish as a foreign language for more than 24 years at the university level. He is a member of ACTFL, the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.
His two areas of professional interest are (1) communicative language teaching focusing on comprehensible input and, (2) curricular design, in particular, the design of an authentic, proficiency-based curriculum that aligns with the ACTFL Standards, which are a set of global descriptions of linguistic performance for speaking, listening, reading, and writing in a foreign language. He is currently serving as the Language Coordinator for the first four semesters of Spanish for the MLC Department.
