Any first-year student admitted to Ball State University with a declared AACSB-accredited business major may apply to the Miller Business Honors Program and the Miller Scholarship, given to the honors program’s highest achievers. Each year, the selective experience accepts up to 24 students (including Miller Scholarship winners).

  • significant record of honors, AP/IB, and college dual-credit and/or transfer courses
  • notable involvement in student organization, leadership experiences, community service, international travel, and state and national competitions
  • self-motivated, curious students who driven to extra effort in and out of the classroom. Our students seek to build lasting relationships with the Miller College community and take full advantage of the program and other college opportunities

How to Apply

Students who apply for and receive the Miller Scholarship are automatically admitted to the Miller Business Honors Program, but we encourage you to complete both applications.

Miller Scholarship

Deadline—January 31

Apply for Miller Scholarship

Students receiving the Miller Scholarship are automatically admitted to the Miller Business Honors Program.

The honors committee meets within a few days of the application deadline, and students are notified by mail within a week of that meeting. Students selected as Miller Scholarship Finalists are required to attend Miller Scholarship Day in February.

Write Two Essays

Fill out the online application, which includes two essays:

1. Why do you want to pursue a business degree? (500-word maximum)
2. Describe a time when you applied persistence. What was the result? (500-word minimum)

Recommendation Letters

Submit two recommendation letters.

Ask two adults (non-family members) who are familiar with your achievements, abilities, potential, and character to write letters of recommendations.

  • One may be from a teacher, counselor, or school administrator.
  • One should be from someone outside your high school, such as a pastor, neighbor, or mentor.

These letters should be on professional letterhead, if possible.
