Experience the breadth and significance of human culture over time with a major in history. Studying history enhances your ability to discern patterns of comparison and contrast amid the complexities and similarities of human experience. You will understand the development of the modern world’s systems and structures, and be equipped to think critically in those areas.
The Department of History offers two concentrations: general history and public history. The general history concentration prepares students with critical thinking skills that apply to a variety of career fields, such as law, teaching, government, business, industry, libraries and archives, museums and art galleries, research, writing, and communications.
The public history concentration is a hands-on program that teaches students the theoretical and applied skills necessary to work in museums, archives, and spaces where the field of history is accessible to the public. This concentration culminates in an internship experience to prepare students to go directly into the workforce upon graduation.
