Comprehensive geography helps you find solutions to complex issues such as: Should a new extension to an existing highway be built? Should the community grant tax abatements to potential employers? Should new housing be constructed in a historically restored neighborhood? Should land uses on the urban fringe be regulated?
Specifically, you will have the opportunity to work in a variety of industries. In the private sector, jobs often include real estate, insurance, marketing, sales, and consulting. In government, employment can include planning, cartography, work as a GIS technician, and drafting.
Many of our students have gone to graduate school and earned advanced degrees
in geography and related fields. Graduates in geography possess basic skills in geographic information systems (GIS), cartography, and remote sensing technologies. These are all currently in demand from a wide array of different employers.
