Admission to our graduate program means you need to meet the criteria of and apply to both Ball State’s Graduate School and the program itself.

You will need to determine if your program is delivered online or on campus. Please contact your program director to determine your delivery mode.

If you will be an online student and you live outside Indiana, this information regarding State Regulatory Authorizations might apply to you.



Applicants are expected to have a GPA of 3.2 or higher on all previously completed graduate work.

How to Apply

Submit Materials

To apply for admission to the specialist degree program:

    1. Make sure you meet the EdS admission requirements of the Ball State Graduate School.
    2. Apply online.
    3. Provide one copy of all college/university official transcripts.
    4. Have your Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores forwarded to the Graduate School.

Also upload the following to your online application:
A. Resume/Vita/CV = Upload a current resume or vita that highlights educational, leadership, and community involvement
B. Statement of Purpose/Intent = Platform Statement of educational philosophy and beliefs about leadership (no more than 600 words). You may tweak such a document from previous coursework, if appropriate.
C. Writing Sample = Academic paper from a previous class which reflects your best research writing, including citations and APA 6th formatting
Once the department is notified of your application, you will receive instructions for submitting the names of 5 references


We will review and evaluate all of your materials after we receive them. Following this evaluation, we may invite you to campus for a personal interview.
