Design.

June 20-29, 2019

Attend our 10-day intensive Summer Design Workshop for high school students to experience interior design firsthand. Explore the fundamentals of 2D and 3D concepts; learn basic drawing and illustration skills, play with color use and light effects, learn how interior environments affect human behavior, and leave the workshop with new friends, new perspectives and a personal portfolio full of your ideas. If you have an interest in pursuing interior design at the college level, make plans to attend this summer workshop. The workshop is limited to 12 students and we encourage you to apply early to ensure your place in the workshop.

The workshop begins Thursday June 20 and ends Saturday June, 29 2019.  The workshop fee of $1250 covers your housing accommodation in a campus dormitory, a customized course book, drafting supplies/tools, and transportation to field trips in Muncie and Indianapolis. You will be paying for your own meals. We suggest budgeting $20 to $25 per day.

The Youth Summer Design Forum is an inclusive program and seeks to blend tradition and innovation in creative learning, covering areas in:

  • Applied Critical Thinking
  • Exploration with Materials
  • 2D Dimensional Fundamentals
  • 3D Dimensional Fundamentals
  • Basic Drawing and Illustration
  • Exposure to Color and Light
  • Interior Environments and Human Behavior
  • Professional Associations
  • The Legislature and Licensing

Activities outside of the workshop will allow you to build lasting friendships and learn about college life at Ball State. Sample activities include an afternoon of shopping, movie night, bowling night, and use of recreational facilities—swimming, fitness, weights, Ping-Pong, and tennis.

Experience the Interior Design program before college to see if this program fits your career goals. By the end of the workshop you will have a portfolio of work--a required component of the application process in many accredited interior design programs. By completing this workshop, we will waive an interior design 3-credit hour elective course if you declare a major in Interior Design at Ball State.

We begin accepting applications December 1, 2018. Space is limited.
Submit your application and release form with a $100.00 deposit now.
