A team of three site visitors from the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) reviewed our program November 8 through November 13, 2013. . During their visit, they reviewed students’ works, conducted interviews with faculty and students, and worked together to evaluate our interior design program according to CIDA Standards. The visiting team is now in the process of completing a written report documenting their findings. The team report is due in the CIDA office on November 19th, 2013. When submitted, CIDA staff formats the report and conducts a staff review in consultation with the team. Readers from the Accreditation Commission also receive the report. Commissioners have the opportunity to ask the visiting team questions regarding evidence presented in the report. Our program will receive the team report for review approximately six weeks following the site visit.

The program then has approximately three weeks to review and respond to the team report. This is the program’s opportunity to submit any concerns with the report and plans for improvement. The program should review the report for any technical errors or content concerns. Subsequent report readers and evaluators have the opportunity to review both the team report and any concerns the program submits in writing.

Following the program review, the team report is sent to a group of trained site visitors. These individuals provide their opinion on a) whether the evidence presented in the report supports the team’s evaluation of standards, and b) whether the team’s recommendation for accreditation is supported by the overall report content. Site visitor feedback is compiled and forwarded to the Accreditation Commission. This typically takes three weeks.

The Accreditation Commission is the final authority for accreditation decisions. Commissioners review all information related to the program’s evaluation: the program’s self-study (Program Analysis Report), the team report, the program’s response to the team report (if any), and compiled feedback from CIDA site visitors.

During the team exit interview with faculty, the Department Chair, and the Dean on Tuesday, November 13th, 2013, the visiting team were extremely pleased with the quality of the students work. They particularly emphasized the global awareness of the students, their creativity, drafting skills (both hand and computer), programming abilities, comprehension of the design process, and collaboration/team work as strong components of our program.

On March 31, 2014 the Accreditation Commission granted our program with CIDA accreditation that will remain in effect until the next review for renewal in 2020.
