Shireen Kanakri, M.Arch., PhD., is a tenure-track assistant professor in the Interior Design Program and affiliate faculty with the Autism Center at Ball State University. Kanakri completed her doctorate in architecture from Texas A&M University / Center for Health Systems and Design in May 2014.

Kanakri's interest includes effects of environmental factors like acoustics and lighting on the children with autism, psychology of design and architecture, behavioral. She will continue her research on the effects of noise on children with autism leads to potential design solutions for creating spaces that support user needs.Kanakri has more than ten publications in refereed journals on the autism topic. She is leading the Healthy Autism Design Lab located in the Applied Technology College building. This lab has different acoustical and lighting mock up environments that will help Kanakri to observe the children who will visit the lab. 

Kanakri is the recipient of ARCC King Medal for innovation, integrity, and scholarship in environmental design research in 2014 from the Architectural Research Centers Consortium, the Official representative for Jordan in the Global Health Care Group" International Union of Architects’ Public Health Group UIA/PHG and Chair of Cities and Globalization in environmental design research association (EDRA).
