Assistant Teaching Professor of Architecture
Design Innovation Fellow and Assistant Teaching Professor Christopher Battaglia, recently received recognition as Ball State University's 2018-2019 Design Research Fellow for Exhibit Columbus. Chris's design research proposal will be manifested in an installation during Exhibit Columbus Fall 2019. The proposal was selected from several submissions by a jury review. Together with his current studio course ARCH 401, and upcoming ARCH 402, students are conducting research, designing infrastructure, experimenting with form, and will be critically engaged to implement robotic concrete 3d printing in the college.
Additionally, Chris just returned from the Rob|Arch 2018 conference where he presented his research paper on Sub-Additive Concrete 3D Printing of Thin Shell Lattice Structures, and with his colleagues from Cornell, won "First Runner-Up Award" for The Best Workshop Award presented by Arup. This difficult competition included 16 workshops, 6 taught by international industry companies and the rest by educational leaders in the robotics in architecture field. The jury appreciated the process of teaching and that Chris and his team, fabricated a majority of the infrastructure to conduct the workshop with the participants at the ETH, Zurich during the 3 Days of the workshop.
