Ball State’s hospitality and food management program is a fun and fast-paced roadmap to upper-level management positions in the hospitality industry. This major offers you the opportunity to study a blend of theory relating to management and financial service practices, with a focus on experiential learning in the three main industry areas of event planning, food and beverage management, and hotel management.

The best aspect of Ball State is how much hands-on experience you receive. I was in a chef coat cooking in a professional kitchen the first semester of my freshman year.

Maplewood Mansion

Maplewood Mansion

You'll get out of the classroom and gain hands-on experience in a real, operational boutique apartment building. Students in our program are required to complete a 50-hour pre-internship experience, helping with day-to-day operations at Maplewood Mansion Learning Lab. Located in the heart of Minnetrista, Maplewood houses Indiana University School of Medicine Muncie students completing their clerkships in the area.

Major Requirements

A bachelor's degree in hospitality and food management blends the University Core Curriculum with courses in business foundations, hospitality and food management, and general electives to round out your degree.

After completing your core courses in our program, you’ll have the opportunity to select electives in the service area that best fits your career goals. This degree can be completed as a bachelor of arts (BA), which requires a language component, or a bachelor of science (BS), which requires the completion of a minor.
