The Intelligent Networked Devices Institute (INDi) is a knowledge group at Ball State that has come together to promote the responsible development of embedded systems and the Internet of Things. Our group will accomplish this through three primary initiatives: research, education, and awareness.  We live in a world where intelligence is being embedded into previously mundane or isolated items at an exponential rate. Consider the number of “smart” devices in your own lives that now have sensory, computational and communication capabilities.

INDi is hosting the first annual IoT Faculty Symposium for the purpose of raising awareness of the potential that IoT technologies can have on research across disciplines. If you could collect data from any location, at any time, and respond to that data in real-time, how could that impact your research possibilities? We have faculty at Ball State with programming, engineering, and system design capabilities. However, the potential of IoT is not in the technology. It is the opportunities it can create for other disciplines. The symposium seeks to facilitate collaboration between faculty across disciplines that will lead to new scholarly and entrepreneurial opportunities.

The symposium will consist of six presentations where you will discover the capabilities of IoT technologies. Faculty who have already embraced IoT technologies will share their research and the opportunities the technology created. You will also be engaged in an interactive session that will immerse you in planning an IoT implementation. At the conclusion of the symposium, we invite you to join us for a luncheon.

If you are already utilizing embedded systems in your research, we have reserved a couple of sessions for you to share your experiences at the symposium. Simply indicate your interest on the registration form and we will contact you.
