How do I schedule a group tour?
Tours are scheduled through the FSEEC office by calling Sharyl Grant at 765-285-2641 or by using this form. Tours for school groups are generally conducted Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Do I need permission to visit the other Field Station and Environmental Education Center (FSEEC) properties?
Permission to visit properties other than Christy Woods is required. Specific requests should be made to the FSEEC Land Manager.

Where can I park when visiting Christy Woods?
Parking lot G13 is the closest access to the two greenhouses. A visitor parking pass must be obtained from parking services to use the G13 lot during the work week.  Metered parking is also available on Riverside Avenue. 

Can I collect leaves?

Collecting of leaves and other live material is restricted. 

How do I reserve the picnic pavilion on the south side of Christy Woods?
To reserve the picnic pavilion on the south side of Christy Woods, you should contact Ball State Recreation Services at 765-285-8708.

Are the greenhouses open to the public?
Both the teaching greenhouse and orchid greenhouse are open to the public from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Greenhouses are closed weekends. Christy Woods is closed for university-recognized holidays.

Can recreational or other activities be scheduled in Christy Woods (e.g. parties and weddings)?
Christy Woods is an outdoor laboratory for students of natural sciences.  As such, activities not directly related to environmental education are restricted.

What kinds of group programs are offered? 
Tours of greenhouses, forest, prairie, and the small wetland areas are available to school groups, garden clubs, Scout groups, etc. These tours are free, but need to be scheduled at least two weeks in advance.  On selected Saturdays, four months of the year tours are conducted for the Ball State and Muncie communities.

  • July – Prairie Tours

These tours are free and open to the public.
