Terrilyn Shepherd joined the Ball State University faculty in the spring of 2024 as an Instructor of Music. She is also a professional flutist and has performed with the Carmel Symphony Orchestra, the Marion Philharmonic, and the Butler University Orchestra. Shepherd was also a featured soloist with the Cedarville University Chamber Orchestra. As a harpist, Shepherd has performed with the Ball State Harp Ensemble, the Ball State Wind Ensemble, and with the Oklahoma State University Orchestra.
Shepherd’s primary research interest is in Galant Schemata and the pedagogical possibilities for their use today. She has presented internationally at the Galant Schema Studies Conference on Incorporating Galant Schema Theory into the Modern Music Theory Course Sequence. Her most recent presentation, Romantic Lieder: Reexamining Schubert’s Erlkönig Using Galant Schemata Theory, investigates the use of Galant schemas in the musical structure of Schubert’s lied.
Shepherd received a Bachelor of Music Education from Cedarville University, and a Master of Arts and Doctor of Arts from Ball State University. She was also a Visiting Assistant Professor at Oklahoma State University teaching such courses as Music Theory, Aural Skills, and the Graduate Music History Review Course.
