No, you do not have to keep a food log. However, writing down what you eat can be beneficial for self-awareness and it may be helpful for the nutritionist to review. You can discuss this at the initial appointment if you would like to record your food, but it is not necessary.

The NAL wants to focus on your nutrition goals. You will be able to discuss nutrition questions you have or information related to one of your health goals. For example, you may be interested in weight loss, improving cholesterol, lowering blood pressure, managing blood sugar or insulin resistance, planning healthy meals, snack ideas, or improving overall diet.

A biometric screening appointment with the NAL will last approximately 15-30 minutes. An initial nutrition education/nutrition counseling appointment will take 45-60 minutes. The NAL is able to be flexible with the duration of the appointment, depending on your availability.
