Research Focus: Maternal/Child Health, Maternal Substance Use Disorder, Mental Health, Experiences of underrepresented college students in health profession majors.

Potential Student Project(s): 

1. What are the experiences of underrepresented college students (first generation, racial/ethnic minorities/student athletes)?
2. How effective are strategies to improve maternal mental health?
3. Synthesis of research studies on peer mentors in maternal mental health and substance use

Attributes/skills/background sought in undergraduate: 

• Ability to locate peer-reviewed journal articles, summarize the findings, and credit relevant references
• Strong interest in improving maternal-child outcomes
• Willingness to learn research skills and use of excel, OneDrive, etc.

Mentoring Plan: The student researcher will work 5 hours on the project including a 1-on-1 interaction with for at least 1 hour/week. Meetings can be done via zoom or in-person. We will work on a project that advances the student's scholarly agenda with clear expectations and outcomes that are achievable within this time commitment.
