Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Services and Dean of Students
Kay Bales has served as the top administrator for Ball State’s Division of Student Affairs since July 2005. In that role, Kay provides executive leadership for the university’s retention efforts and bears responsibility for the Career Center, Counseling and Health Services, Disability Services, Housing and Residence Life, Multicultural Center, Public Safety, Student Center, Student Life, and Student Rights and Community Standards.
She began her work for Ball State in 1989 in the Student Activities office (later known as Leadership and Service Programs) and eventually directed that office. From 2000 until 2005, Kay served as the associate vice president for student life.
Kay completed her doctorate in adult and community education in 2000. With a cognate in higher education, Kay’s dissertation topic was A Qualitative Study of the Leadership Practices of Eight Women in Student Affairs Administration at Ball State University.
