Michael Gurlea is currently a doctoral student at the School of Education and Human Development at the University of Virginia. Prior to his time in the PhD program he spent six years as a high school social studies teacher in Northern Virginia. In his time at UVA he has taught courses in social studies methods and general teacher education. His research interests include assessment in the social studies classrooms and student and teacher perceptions and decision-making regarding content that is affectively difficult.
