Collecting of plants and animals is not permitted in Christy Woods.

Christy Woods is a unique area and is used solely for educational purposes. Collecting degrades the ecosystems found within the area, ultimately decreasing the value as an educational facility.

Collecting restrictions include, but are not limited to:

  • any live plant material, such as:

  • picking leaves

  • picking flowers

  • tree branches

  • any animal, such as:

  • any turtle or amphibian (protected by state law)

  • insects (by netting or digging)

  • bird nests and feathers (protected by federal law)

  • any mushroom

Questions regarding the collecting policy should be addressed to the Christy Woods staff or to John Taylor, land manager.

Exceptions to this policy is only by written permission  from the land manager of the Field Station and Environmental Education Center.
