Library Information

In this case, there is no Full Text version of the document being sought because there is no ‘Go’ button by the Full Text option, and it states that there is, “No online full text available for this item.” However, there is a ‘Go’ button link to the CardCat entry for this item, so the library may have it in paper form, and there is also a ‘Go’ button link to ILLiad for you to obtain a copy of this article.

                 Citation Linker:

Citation Linker is a new link that is available in the BSU Library Electronic Database web page and it is an excellent tool for tracking down specific references that you may wish to view. The link appears in the first paragraph at the top of the page as shown below.

1. There are two new features at the BSU library that will increase the speed in which you locate and obtain full text copies for the articles you are seeking. These are ‘Find-It’, and ‘Citation Linker’.

                 Find-It:

Find-It is a new software feature that appears during keyword searches in a select number of library electronic databases. The ‘Find-It’ button (which appears in the initial citation list that is returned when you do a keyword search, or in the description of the citation when you click on the citation link in the initial citation list) will allow you to either:

                 1. Go directly to the full text version of the article if the library has an electronic version of it,

                 2. Go to the CardCat entry if the library has a paper copy of the article; and,

                 3. Go to ILLiad (the interlibrary loan web page) so that you can order the article.

If you see a citation that has the ‘Find-It’ button in it, click on the button and it will take you to a window similar to the one shown below.

When you click on this link, you are taken to a window that allows you to enter information that you know about the article like the one shown below here. In most cases, you do not need to enter all of the information in order to get an accurate search return, but if there are multiple citations to your search request, you can then select the article you seek from the list provided. Consider the search example shown below here:

Even with minimal information citation information, such as the example shown above, Citation Linker will usually find the article you are referring to. When you click on the ‘GO’ button at the bottom left of the Citation Linker screen, you will get a search result window like the one shown below, similar to the Find It results window, that will provide you with access to electronic full text, CardCat, or ILLiad links for the article. Be aware that both of these software programs are still very new, have the usual problems associated with software being implemented for the first time, and are limited to a specific number of databases, so some citation searches may not be successfully completed.
