World Culture A world culture is an emerging trend throughout the world. Evidence for this can be traced back to economic and cultural influences. The development of these trends will continue to enrich societies for generations to come. One of the first examples of globalization is the English language. English is a universal language spoken throughout the world. Beginning in elementary school, English is taught as a second language in Singapore. During my visit, I discovered how influential the language is to society. Street signs and restaurant menus are commonly printed in English. Another example of an evolving world culture includes the decline of family owned fishing operations in Hong Kong. Current generations do not have interest in passing on their family’s legacy of high quality fishing services. As a result, they have the opportunity to move towards the city and obtain corporate positions. In turn, a higher standard of living can be obtained. Also, older generations have discovered tourism can generate more income than fishing. Therefore, they have customized their vessels for tourists to take guides of their communities. Dubai is another example of an emerging world culture. Emirates Mall has an indoor ski park in the middle of a desert. Visitors have the opportunity to explore the wonders of an indoor winter wonderland by skiing. Dubai is also a liberal Muslim society. This is a society that has residents from cultures around the world. The winter wonderland provides Muslims the opportunity to wear nontraditional garments such as snow pants and winter coats. Also, this gives Muslims from more conservative communities an opportunity for an enriching family building experience. In conclusion, a world cultural will continue to transform societies for generations to come. The development of enriching societies will increase the standard of living. As communities flourish, cultural identity will diminish. Top Image: Sketch of a typical private fishing boat in Hong Kong. Bottom Image: Ski Dubai- Indoor Ski Environment. |
