Master planning hometown
MNB 03 - 14 - 2010

For master planning part of the hometown project i was really inspired by the planning of Helsinki. That city is very urban, but at the same time has a lot of green space, as well as it is well broken down into different segments of architectural history and use. For Indianapolis I decided to extend the urban development past the railroad track. Because athe entire urban context stops at the tracks, introducing a new style would not be problematic. I tried to keep the urban edge going, but at the same time I wanted to create enough of green space and create more parks in the existing context by removing some of the parking lots. I was thinking if there would be a public transportation hub, there would be less need for parking a car, at the same time if there would be less parking, people would be more inclined to use public transit. For the connection to the Victory field I was thinking of creating a bioswale pathway underneath the tracks that would provide the necessary pathway to the venue and safeguard water.
