NARRATIVE

EVANSVILLE RAILWAY (E-RAIL) CONCEPTUALIZAION

With the development of Team Evansville and refinements in the organization of individual projects, this design explores in greater detail the possibilities of a transportation system that networks the entire city.  A monorail train line following the Lloyd Expressway corridor forms a west/east spine for the design.  Hubs along this corridor provide access points for which other modes of transportation may be integrated into the system, including new north/south bus routes, links to major roadways such as First Avenue, Green River Road, and Interstate 164, and eventually connections to a developed greenway system.

 

Phase I of this design would connect the University of Southern Indiana to downtown Evansville where collegiate living quarters would be established in the form of loft apartments.

 

Phases II and III would involve continuing the connection further eastward toward Green River Road and Burkhardt Road respectively, providing a link to the primary avenues of commercial business (namely the Eastland Mall, Best Buy, Super Wal-Mart, and Target shopping districts).

 

Phase IV would extend the E-Rail system to a major hub located along I-164, anticipating the potential significant link to the future I-69 corridor and link to Indianapolis.

 

Inspiration for this design came from multiple sources such as the previously mentioned layered transportation systems of Shanghai, the green vehicular parkways of Singapore, the monorail system of Kuala Lumpur, the small-scale rail system of Vienna, and the character structuring of Metropolitan bridges in Paris.
