Off-Campus Internship• Students should identify an off-campus internship location and inquire if an internship for the desired semester is available. Past locations have included A Better Way, Youth Opportunity Center, Big Brother's, Big Sisters, the Julian Center, and Planned Parenthood. • Students should make an appointment to review the appropriateness of the internship with the Women’s Studies Program Director. To be considered appropriate, an internship must include substantial involvement with women or women’s issues. • Students should ask the off-campus internship supervisor to provide the following information to the Women’s Studies Director; the information should be sent on the off-campus agency’s letterhead stationary and e-mailed to the Director.
• When the letter from the supervisor is received, the Women’s Studies Program Director will evaluate the internship and if it is approved for women’s studies credit, the Director will complete an on-line permission form for the appropriate course number and credit hours. • After the on-line permission has been completed, the student must register for the designated internship course. • The Women’s Studies Program Director will contact the off-campus internship supervisor at the semester midterm and final exam weeks to determine the progress of the student intern. • Students must submit a summary and evaluation essay about their internship experiences to the Women’s Studies Program Director prior to the last day of final exams at the conclusion of the internship semester. The length of the essay should correspond to the following guidelines.
