Owning a home of your own is the American Dream, but losing that home is becoming the reality for many people as they face foreclosure. Over the past several years there has been a 50 percent increase in foreclosures in Indiana, with the highest rates in Henry, Madison, Tipton, Huntington, and Marion Counties. The loss of high-paying manufacturing jobs, an increase in the unemployment rate, a lack of appreciation in housing prices, questionable lending practices, and increased costs of necessities like food and health care have all contributed.

WIPB aired Facing the Mortgage Crisis Part I on February 25, 2010. Part II aired on April 1. Both programs featured panelists that addressed questions by viewers on the topic of foreclosure. The discussion included tips to get the proper assistance for your situation, on renting vs. owning property, and how to tell when keeping your home may not be ideal. Panelists included: Momentive Consumer Credit Counseling, Attorney General's Office, Affordable Housing Corporation representing the Indiana Foreclosure Prevention Network, Delaware County Circuit Court and District 6 Access to Justice, Inc.
