OUTREACH ACTIVITIES

WIPB-TV Visits the Indiana Dunes National Park

WIPB-TV, the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management at Ball State University, and the Boys and Girls Club of Muncie took 25 children on an overnight trip to the Indiana Dunes National Park. This trip was one of our outreach activities in conjunction with the PBS program "The National Parks: America's Best Idea" which airs on WIPB beginning September 27 for six consecutive nights. On July 23, we took a bus to the dunes in northern Indiana. Once we arrived at the National Lake Shore, we participated in the "Who Goes Where" program about wildlife in the park's ecosystem. Then we set up camp for the night, learning how to put up tents, cook dinner, and sleep outside. Later that evening, we took a night hike to explore the sounds of nightlife in the woods. Along with learning activities the children also had a chance to enjoy Lake Michigan and explore the dunes.
