School Wellness Policies
In the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004, the U.S. Congress established a new requirement that all school districts with a federally-funded school meals program develop and implement wellness policies that address nutrition and physical activity by the start of the 2006-2007 school year.

Below you will find the wellness policy for your school.

Wellness At Yorktown!

The Yorktown Tigers have been actively involved in various wellness activities this year.  Listed below are a few wellness activities the Yorktown Tigers have planned!

  • Many students from Yorktown have submitted their own "Got Milk" entries for the Got Milk Project.  Students were asked to create their own "Got Milk" photo.
  • Yorktown, for the second year in a row, promoted and participated in the YMCA Mini Marathon.  Keep on running Tigers!
  • Mr. Back promotes walking by giving students pedometers to use one time per month in gym class.   Students can also log miles at recess.  Yorktown has posted our first 30 mile walker. Great job walkers!
  • Yorktown students used canned foods in gym class for weight lifting/strengthening exercises and then donated the cans to local food banks.
  • Yorktown students were taught 50's style and Western dances in gym class the week before they had their school dances scheduled.
  • All of the Yorktown Schools are participating in the "Make One Change" program.
  • 11 Yorktown staff members participated in the "Feel like a Million Program" offered by the Working Well Resources Team.
  • Yorktown will complete height, weight, and body mass index for all students K-12.
  • A breakfast program will be offered for the first time at Yorktown Elementary School.
  • A mentor program established with Yorktown High School students will focus on character traits for students.
