Ball State President Blaine A. Brownell and Beverley Pitts, Ball State’s first female provost and vice
president for academic affairs, head a team of innovative leaders who are committed to excellence.

BALL STATE IS EXPERIENCING an infusion of energy and ideas from new leaders, and familiar leaders in new roles, who are committed to building on the successes of their predecessors while embracing the opportunities of the future. One of the individuals who led the quest to secure the iCommunication grant is Beverley Pitts. On July 1, Pitts became Ball State’s first female provost and vice president for academic affairs. She has demonstrated a range of great strengths during her seventeen years at Ball State that make her extremely qualified to guide the university’s academic mission.
The strategic plan calls for the university to provide enhanced learning opportunities, including international experiences. Cyrus Reed, who has experience in international business and
international education has been hired as associate provost for international education.
Reed will lead the effort to provide better opportunities for students from outside the United States to study at Ball State and for Ball State students to study overseas. Deans Robert Kvam and Nancy Kingsbury are setting aggressive agendas in the College of Fine Arts and the College of Applied Sciences
and Technology and to raise the profile of Ball State’s athletic teams, while remaining committed to the university’s strong tradition of following a true student-athlete
model. Ball State boasts one of the nation's highest graduation rates for
athletes, and last year tied for first in the country for the number of Verizon Academic All-Americans.
Ball State University derives its strength from innovative faculty, inventive students, imaginative leaders, inspiring programs, and the integral support of alumni and friends. Enrollment figures are on the rise; faculty, staff, and students are building a national model of a learner-centered academic community; and campus leaders are drawing the efforts of the university’s diverse units into a coordinated effort to achieve the aspirations of the strategic plan. Their endeavors are taking place in new and enhanced educational facilities that provide an attractive physical setting for learning. The result is a constantly growing sense of momentum, which is propelling Ball State on its mission of being a learning community engaged in the discovery of knowledge, the integration of learning experiences, and their application through civic and professional leadership.
