TechTime

TechTime is a free service offered by the University Computing Services HelpDesk to students having difficulty with their personal computers. TechTime is staffed by knowledgeable UCS student employees and graduate assistants who will guide students through fixing common computer problems. Students can schedule TechTime for assistance with operating systems, applications, and network configurations. TechTime staff will also help with memory upgrades and minor hardware repair; however, they will not repair major hardware problems. They can provide information on where to get hardware problems repaired.

Making a Reservation for TechTime

You must be currently enrolled in Ball State classes to be eligible to utilize the TechTime service. Please note that TechTime is a consulting service, so you will have to stay with us so we can help you solve the technical issue at hand. Machines cannot be dropped off. Due to overwhelming demand, students need to make a reservation for TechTime. During fall semester, TechTime is open from noon until 9:00 pm, Monday through Thursday and from noon - 5:00 pm on Friday.

What to Bring to TechTime

TechTime is set up with monitors, keyboards, mice, and network cables, so you do not need to bring these items when they come for assistance.  What they should bring are the following:

    • The power cable for their computer if it is a laptop.  If it is a desktop, TechTime staff will have a power cable.
    • Manuals and CDs that came with the computer.
    • CD and documentation for any program they are having problems with.
    • Some type of media to back up files to - a zip disk, CD-R, or flash drive.
    • Your Ball State picture id and BSU id number.
