TQE: Teacher Quality Enhancement: Project Goals
Goals of the TQE project are to improve teacher quality through...
1. Collaborative Partnerships With P-12 Schools
1.1 Collaboration - Make use of collaborative advisory board to evaluate and assist in implementing teacher quality improvement activities
1.2 Professional Development - Provide assistance in professional development for P-12 school partners to enhance their performance and thus the quality of experiences for pre-service and beginning teachers
1.3 PDS Expansion - Expand the existing Professional Development Schools (PDS) network as a vehicle for simultaneous renewal of P-12 schools and teacher preparation
2. Better Quality Teacher Preparation
2.1

Instructional Improvement - Improve the performance of the university faculty who teach professional education courses

2.2 Assessment - Initiate standards-based performance assessment of candidates in professional education programs
2.3 Interdisciplinary Training - Initiate collaboration between education faculty and arts and sciences faculty involved in teacher preparation
2.4 Clinical Experiences - Improve the quality of clinical experiences for professional education candidates
3. High-Quality Induction Into the Teaching Profession
3.1 Pre-Service Induction Experiences - Build professional induction into the undergraduate education program
3.2 Beginning Teacher Induction Experiences - Assess and track the professional activities and performance of education program graduates
3.3 Beginning Teacher Support - Initiate a system for providing education and professional support for graduates

4. Attention to Assisting High-Need Schools

4.1 Pre-Service Preparation - Increase the diversity of field placements for professional education candidates
4.2 Urban Experience - Provide expanded urban experience opportunities
4.3 Professional Certification - Assist uncertified school personnel to obtain teaching licenses
4.4 Recruitment - Help develop a magnet school for the teaching profession in a major urban center to attract young people into teaching
5. Research in Teacher Quality
5.1 School-Based Research - Support action research efforts within teacher education collaborative programs in PDS sites
5.2 Large-scale PDS Research - Carry out a major research study related to the effectiveness of PDS
