Physical education philosophy
In today’s schooling there is so much emphasis put into
subjects such as, math English and science. However, why is there little
emphasis put into physical education? The reason being is that for
many of years physical education has been viewed as a show up and pass class.
Many people think that it is impossible to flunk any kind of physical education
class. Physical education is treated poorly throughout the whole country;
people neglect this subject from learning, as if it may be harmful to their
health. The only way that physical education can be harmful is if you
don’t participate or if your school doesn’t provide it.
I am a firm believer that physical education is essential
to each and everyone that attends school in his/her lifetime. Things
learned in physical education class can be very important for use later on
in life. Like any typical subject learned in school, there must be
a basis to start from to build upon. Students must learn basic locomotor
steps and motor skills, just as someone would learn to add and subtract to
do math.
Physical education should start from the ground and build
up. In that regard we should start good physical education programs
with young students, so that we can condition students that you can learn,
play and have fun at the same time, while being physically fit. We
need to start with a young generation, because children at a young age are
not yet fully developed in their bodies. If a good physical education teacher
can motivate children that physical education is something that nobody should
run from. Physical education should be taught in a way
that is enjoyable and interesting. When I become a physical education
teacher, I will be very flexible in what I will teach. Everyone time
that students come to my class they can always look forward to something
new. Being the type of teacher that can be diverse in the things I
can teach is a good trait to have. It allows students to be good at
a variety of things instead of being good at one certain thing.
While in elementary school, people would some times ask
me. “ What is your favorite subject?” I would reply “gym class” and everyone
would always answer “that isn’t a class”. I have always been the type
of person that was interested in sports and activity. For many people
physical education class can be their worst subject because they may not
be very skilled. Physical education is a class. When I begin to teach
I will treat physical education class the same way a math or English teacher
conducts his/her class. This is only fair to students, because why
should someone pass if they can’t do the necessary thing to complete the
course. Higher standards should be stressed more in physical education
to make sure that students and teachers are doing the necessary things to
not cheat students or themselves.
The main objective in physical education should be to
teach people to have fun enjoy themselves and to develop a competitive fire
that burns within. Physical education is the only subject, where people
can see what his/her heart may be made of. No other subject can teach
students to push hard and strive quite like physical education.
